Have Your Say on the 2025 R&D Tax Credit Review
What is the consultation about?
The R&D Tax Credit has been a central part of Ireland’s tax system for over 20 years, helping businesses invest in research and development that fuels new products, processes, and technologies.
Now in 2025, the Department of Finance is reviewing the R&D Tax Credit and is inviting feedback from companies that carry out qualifying R&D in Ireland and other interested parties. This consultation will help shape how the credit is structured and delivered in the years ahead.
At the same time, the Department is also exploring how broader innovation activities—which may not currently qualify for the R&D Tax Credit—could be supported in the future. This is a major opportunity to influence the development of new tax-based incentives that better reflect how modern Irish businesses innovate.
Whatever the size of your company or the sector in which your are operating, your voice matters. And it’s especially important that Irish SMEs have their say. SMEs make up the majority of R&D tax credit claimants but can face unique challenges in doing so.
🗓️ The deadline to submit feedback is Monday, 19th May 2025.
As a leading provider of R&D Tax Credit services in Ireland since 2014, SciMet R&D welcomes this public consultation and looks forward to making a submission that advocates for the needs of R&D-performing companies across Ireland.

Why Your Feedback is Important
This consultation is a key opportunity to help shape the future of the R&D Tax Credit in Ireland—and to influence how new innovation incentives could support a wider range of businesses in the years ahead.
While the R&D Tax Credit has provided vital support for over 20 years, it doesn’t always reflect the challenges faced by smaller companies. SMEs are the largest group of claimants, but often face barriers when it comes to navigating the rules and accessing the credit effectively.
Your feedback can:
Highlight practical issues in claiming the R&D Tax Credit
Recommend improvements to increase access and impact
Ensure Irish SMEs are central to future tax policy
Help shape new innovation supports for businesses
Whether your company is already claiming or just starting to explore these valuable tax incentives, this is your chance to contribute to a more inclusive and effective system.
